Sandblasted Glass (Shower – Little Red Riding Hood and The Wolf)

Obscure glass is a very useful way to achieve privacy. Although some glass comes with textures that refract light, many times the desired privacy does not extend to the entire glass panel, the textured glass does not “feel” right, or the desired effect includes an interest in an artistic element to the obscure glass.

Sandblasting glass can achieve the obscurity that the client wants but it can also provide the opportunity for artistic expression or for clients to include their personal preferences into the sandblasted image.

Occasionally, the desired privacy effect is to have only a portion of glass obscured. This is often true for showers. In such cases, the bottom of the glass and the top of the glass are left clear so that the tile is still visible, but a person showering would have the torso area covered.

For other obscure applications, the sandblasted glass may include detailed artistry that appeals to the client. In the case of the two obscure glass panels for a set of bi-fold doors to a bathroom, the client enjoyed the idea of having Little Red Riding Hood and The Wolf portrayed on the glass. The composition, adapted from an old painting, set Little Red Riding Hood in one panel and The Wolf in the other panel. The detail visible in both panels reflects what can be achieved with the techniques available. One humorous element of the pieces is that The Wolf only gets near Little Red Riding Hood when the doors are opened for entry. Then The Wolf gets right up next to her.

The art of sandblasting can be done for plaques and trophies as well. We welcome you to look through the sandblasted glass category for examples. With sandblasted glass, the imagination is the only thing that limits what can be created for special, artistic effects on otherwise simple clear glass.
