Frameless Shower Enclosures

Custom frameless shower enclosures add beauty to any bathroom. Each one requires a specific solution to address the questions of design and function. Exacting measurements must be taken to the 1/16” and this includes checking for out-of-square conditions. Shower glass is a very unforgiving medium. Working with tempered glass, one cannot cut it or make significant adjustments to their dimensions because the glass will shatter. Therefore, the shower space must be measured precisely and the glass fabricated accurately to ensure proper fit.

For some installations other factors must be considered. For example, the shower in this photo had to be carried to a second-floor primary bath. When designing this shower, consideration had to be given as to whether it would fit up the stairs. Also, given the weight of the large-notched piece, there had to be a sufficient number of able-bodied workers to maneuver it into the house, up the staircase (which included a landing that only allowed about 2 inches on either end to turn the glass) through the hallways and ultimately into the bathroom. Even before the glass was unloaded from the truck outside, the crew had to work out which end of the glass would be carried into the house first, how many reversals of direction there would be along the way and how would the piece be manipulated in the bathroom in order to stand it up correctly in the limited space.

There are three main considerations with shower installations:

  1. Protect the product so that it does not get damaged in transit or at the job site.
  2. Safeguard the property ensuring that walls are not scratched or dinged, tiles and stone are not chipped, and cabinets are not damaged.
  3. Most importantly, no employees get injured at any point during the installation.

With all of these factors worked out, mitigated, and properly executed, the result is a beautiful installation and a well-functioning enclosure.
